Bernie Alton Nelson passed away at home on November 25, 2018, on his 66th birthday after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bernie was a lifelong resident of the Mobile and Theodore area. He had a long career in construction and later work in catastrophe insurance adjusting. Bernie was an avid outdoorsman. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, and hunting of all kinds.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William L. Nelson and Violet E. Nelson.
Bernie is survived by one daughter, Madison Linda Nelson. He is also survived by four siblings, Jerry Nelson, Darleen Jones, LaNell Cole (Randy), and Michael Nelson (Tonya). Bernie was dearly loved by a host of friends and relatives.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Nelson, Mike Nelson, Randy Cole, Brandon Cole, Ray Davis, and John Jackson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the American Cancer Society's Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans, Louisiana.

    I worked with Bernie at Pilot Catastrophe. He was always so friendly and even when he wasn't feeling well he was always thinking of others. I always enjoyed talking to Bernie. He will be missed!! Your are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
