Audrey Wilkerson

Wilkerson, Audrey Mae Lewis, 93, was born Jan 20, 1932 in Citronelle, AL. She went to be with her heavenly family on July 18, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam J. Lewis Sr and her mother Lillie Mae Boothe Lewis; her husband of 76 years, Willard Wilkerson Sr; sons Samuel and Terry Wilkerson; her sisters, Nancy Sutcliffe, Maude (Dea) Miller, and Margie (Baby) Henderson, and also her brother, Sam J. Lewis Jr.; grandson Tim Russell; and great grandson Cody Brooks.

She is survived by her children: Patricia Russell, Willard Wilkerson Jr, Rebecca Legg, and Deborah, Larry, and Daniel Wilkerson. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren, a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Audrey went to Citronelle High School before marrying Willard. In 1962, she worked as a seamstress for Vanity Fair for several years, but chose to stay home and raise her family.

After her family had grown, she went to work for the Mobile County Public School Food Services, and worked for 20 years at Dodge and Sheppard elementary schools. Her zeal for having fun with children spread cheer to everyone who knew her, but more importantly, she personally made it a point that no child would go without a meal-and she often paid for them herself. She earned the reputation of being the best 'grits cook' in the school.

She was a devout Christian, and was a founding and charter member of Mercy Ministries Church, where she was affectionately referred to by everyone as "Aunt Audrey."

She was devoted to her family and friends, but also loved little dogs and traveling.

She is now at peace with the Lord and enjoying a happy reunion, but she will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

All Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, on Friday, July 25th;

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 26th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with internment immediately following.
