Barnard Hiller "B.H." Grovenstein, Jr., 88, passed away on Saturday.
B.H. was born and raised in Rincon, Georgia and was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 with the engineers. He spent 16 months in Korea and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. A retired salesman, he was a longtime resident of both Fairhope and Mobile, most recently residing at Somerby of Mobile. B.H. was a faithful parishioner of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was also a 50-year member of The American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Hanson Grovenstein; his parents, Barnard Hiller Grovenstein and Maude Rahn Grovenstein; three brothers, Luther, Carl, and Harmon; and two sisters, Mearl Dasher and Essie Cannon. Survivors include three siblings: Johnnie Grovenstein of Mobile; Helen Gnann of Springfield, Georgia; and Irvin Grovenstein of Tampa, Florida; his loving and devoted best friend, Mary Davis; special nephew and caregiver, Gerald Grovenstein; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 6100 Cottage Hill Road. Officiated by Rev. Joy Blaylock, a church funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. followed by interment in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Dane Grovenstein, Evan Grovenstein, Larry Grovenstein, Greg Platt, Adlai Platt, and Sidney Clarke. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 6100 Cottage Hill Road, Mobile, Alabama, 36693.
