Mrs. Bertha Hotz Scanlan was born June 15, 1923 and passed away peacefully on November 26, 2015. She lived in Staten Island, New York until 1946 when she moved to Mobile to marry John Leonard Scanlan. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, John and Mary Hotz, brother, John Hotz, Jr.; sister Helen Ward; sister Margaret Hotz; and niece, Darlene Ward. She is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann (Bing) Miller of Mobile; Jill Scanlan of Birmingham; grandson, Matthew Miller of Mobile; sister, Dottie Jennings of Hertford, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Bud Ward of Catskill, New York; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will start at 1 PM Monday. The service will be at Mobile Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 2 PM.
