Brenda Paulene Brownlee Thornton

July 24, 1947 — May 8, 2026

Brenda Paulene Brownlee Thornton, born July 24, 1947, passed away peacefully at home with her family on May 8, 2026. A beloved wife, mother, granny, and friend, Brenda lived a life marked by creativity, courage, generosity, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

For 60 years, Brenda shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Dennis Harold Thornton Jr. She poured her whole heart into her family and never stopped believing in her children, encouraging each of them to dream boldly, stand tall, and become everything God intended them to be. She was a gifted musician who sang in a band and played the piano, an entrepreneur who opened two recording studios that helped singers from a small town get noticed and discovered, giving their voices a chance to be heard from local stages to television. Brenda had a special passion for helping young people discover and share their talents. She even started the "Youth Club" inspiring countless others through her encouragement and creativity. Brenda brought so much beauty and imagination to every part of her life.

Brenda never met a stranger. She was adventurous, brave, and full of life-whether she was blackberry picking, riding a horse bareback, water skiing, dancing during Mardi Gras, being queen of her Mardi Gras organization "Merry Mates", traveling, camping from Montana to Mobile, or riding in a convertible with her sister Mary. She loved Elvis, crocheting, gardening, decorating every holiday with unforgettable flair, collecting figurines, and cheering on her children from the sidelines. She also had a playful spirit and a gift for making memories, from singing "Happy Birthday" to everyone she knew to celebrating her grandchildren's one-week, one-month, and one-year birthdays with delight. Her family will always treasure the many stories that captured her bold and joyful nature. She was unique, she had a gift to always see the beauty in everything around her and had an intense sense of wonder about the world. She truly loved her life and all the people that were in it. Everyone was family!!

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Harold Thornton Jr.; her children, Darrell (Ashley) Thornton, Kenny Thornton, Shane (Gina) Thornton, and Dena Iles; and five grandchildren. Brenda will be remembered for the beauty she created, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave so freely to her family, friends, and community.
