Dec. 13. 1955-May 5, 2020
Carol Marie Barnette passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, May 5, 2020. She was born December 13, 1955 in Mobile, AL to the late Clarence Machon “Buddy” Barnette and Barbara Lou Barnes Barnette. The second child of an older brother and younger sister, Carol was raised in Mobile, AL and graduated from B.C. Rain High School in 1974. Carl also attended Lubbock College in Lubbock, TX. When she returned to Mobile to be with family, she worked for the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department as a police dispatcher. She also spent several years working at Barber’s Dairy. Carol was a strong Christian and was a faithful member of the Azalea City Church of Christ along with her favorite aunt, Marion Barnette. In later years, in spite of several health issues, Carol dedicated herself to become a caregiver for many others, including becoming a full time live-in caregiver for her Aunt Marion. As Carol began to suffer through major health issues, her brother, Shawn, and his wife, Bonnie, lovingly accepted her into their Christian home and cared for her in her final year. Our special thanks are extended to the members of Azalea City Church of Christ and staff at Comfort Care Hospice who provided professional comfort, love, support, hope and guidance for her in her later years. Carol is survived by her brother, Shawn Kevin Barnette, and his wife, Bonnie, of Mobile, AL; sister, Donna Susan Johnson and her children, nieces Nicole Johnson and Candace Johnson, and nephew, Cameron Johnson, all of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her aunt, Marion Barnette of Gulf Breeze, FL and her cousin, Carol Headley of Pensacola Beach, FL. Carol was a fiercely independent woman and her life was distinguished by her love for her God, family, friends and neighbors. She was loved by so many and will be dearly missed by all. She is leaving this world a better place, and is resting with her Lord in Heaven. A memorial service and celebration of Carol’s l life will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at The River, 5610 McCrary Road, Semmes, AL.
