Caroline Day Gentry, born September 1, 1957, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, 2025. She was born in Fairfield, Alabama, and was a graduate of Theodore High School. After more than 30 years in Mobile, she relocated to Texas with her loving daughter and grandson, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Athens State University.
She loved her family and helped her sisters and brother take care of all of her nieces and nephew, taking great pride in watching them grow into adulthood. She was known for her funny one-liners and quick wit. In her spare time, she enjoyed thrift shopping and studying her lineage, often referred to jokingly as the "family historian."
She is survived by her only daughter, Annabelle Gentry; grandson, Tomas Espinoza; sisters, Melanie Bankhead (Ernie), Amy Matthews (Mike); six nieces and nephew, Linzie Atkinson (Adam), Beth Dukes (Brent), Tiffany Heath (Jordan), Kelley Day, Jamie Day Montgomery (Drew), Patrick Day (Courtney); eleven great nieces and nephews, Landon Dukes, McKenzie Odom, Kaylee Atkinson, Mary Jordan Dukes, Kendalynn Odom, Ivy Day, Brooklynn Atkinson, Emery Heath, Jones Montgomery, Annie Day, and Lucy Heath, along with many cousins and extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Ann Day, and brother, William Paul Day.
The family will receive friends at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619) on Sunday, May 18 at noon, with the service beginning at 1 p.m.
She selflessly donated herself to the UT Southwestern Medical Center for medical education and research. Flowers are welcome and memorial donations may be made in her memory to https://penelopehouse.org/, Penelope House Family Violence Center - P.O. Box 9127, Mobile, AL 36691, where her sister was Shelter Supervisor for 23 years.
