Carolyn Case Carpenter, age 95, was born November 03, 1930, in Lincoln County, Mississippi, and departed this life on August 23, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Marvin R. Carpenter; her son, Marvin E. Carpenter; and her daughter, Donna Carpenter Schermer.
Carolyn was a positive, outgoing, and generous person throughout her life. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, boating and fishing, and hosting events in her home. In 1966, Carolyn, Marvin, and their four children settled in Mobile for Marvin's final assignment with the Coast Guard, where they established a life and robust community of friends. In Mobile, Carolyn continued her very successful banking career, retiring as an Executive Vice-President for First Southern Federal. She was an active member of Government Street Baptist Church and of several social and civic organizations. She always seized the opportunity to get involved and volunteer for worthwhile causes focused on helping others.
In spite of a very busy lifestyle, Carolyn always made sure that family came first, and she and Marvin were fortunate to enjoy many healthy, love-filled years together. Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a loyal friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Patricia Smith of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and Susan Barter (Michael) of Fairhope, Alabama; a son-in-law, Philip Schermer, Jr., of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren, Jason Biggs (Mary), Michael Biggs (Wendy), Philip "Tres" Schermer, III, Lindsay Barter, and Lauren Barter; great-grandchildren, Dallas Millevoi, Patton Biggs, Audrey Biggs, and Michael Roland Biggs; and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn's family will honor her life with a funeral service on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with visitation beginning thirty minutes prior. Interment will immediately follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to all caregivers and medical providers for their care and compassion during Carolyn's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
