Mrs. Carolyn Cecile (Cole) Thompson, born June 10, 1937, passed away Saturday August 2, 20025. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents (Nadine and Odis Cole), her sister (Linda Bryant), her husband B.G. Thompson, her daughter (Carolyn Christine), and her son (Benjamin Gregory). She is survived by her daughter Nadine Thompson of MD, Jackie Amato (husband Glen Amato) of DE, grandchildren Gina Banks (husband Trey Banks) of GA, Whitney Amato (husband Matt Yanos) of PA, Tina Thompson of WV, Gordon Amato (wife Julie Weitzel) of MD, Nina Thompson of MD, Brennan Amato (wife Christine Waker), and Christine Amato of MD, Great-Grandchildren Talayla Gilroy, Mya Guterriez, Tyler Guterriez, Tyrell Banks, Kaleb Thompson, Arianna Banks, Kylie Thompson, Tatiana Moreno, Gabriella Banks, Quinn Amato-Yanos, Alessandra Amato, Aria Amato, Skylar Banks, Paige Amato-Yanos, and Kingston Thompson. To her daughters, she was Mom. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her son, she was known as Mawmaw. To her daughter Jackie’s children and grandchildren, she was known as GranniePooh thanks to Jackie’s oldest, Whitney, who sweetly called her Pooh at just six months old.

From a young age, Carolyn was an extrovert. She loved people, and being involved. In high school she was a cheerleader, class president, and even on the homecoming court. In 1955, she married the love of her life, B.G.. They moved to MD for B.G.’s job. There she was a devoted wife and mother. She was a playground aide for her children at Twinbrook Elementary, she coached girls basketball and softball, was a campfire leader, volunteered as classroom mom, and chaperoned many field trips. She loved being a mom to her children. She did all of this and still managed to hold a career.

Carolyn and B.G. took in their sons daughters, where she made herself available to be their playground aid at St. Jude School, and was a Girl Scout leader.

Carolyn loved to travel. She had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii, Jamaica, Italy, Spain, England, and Germany. She loved Gaitlinburg, TN, but her favorite place to visit was Disney World. Carolyn loved country music. On the weekends, or driving in the car, she was known to blast country music while singing and dancing along. Reba, Dolly Parton, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Randy Travis, and Alan Jackson were some of her favorites. Carolyn also loved musicals. She loved going to the theater. She especially loved going to see her granddaughter Whitney in her school plays, and her daughter Jackie perform in her local theater. Carolyn also had a passion for gardening. Her yard yearly bloomed the most beautiful assortment of colors.

Carolyn’s love for people and helping, led her to beautiful opportunities. Carolyn, through countless hours of volunteer work, help set up Maryland Hospice. She was awarded for her work from PBW (Professional Business Women’s Association). In addition, Carolyn volunteered for Make-A-Wish Foundation, organizing and producing fundraisers for the foundation.

Carolyn has spent the last six years at Crowne of Mobile, where she was one of the staff’s favorites. Carolyn had a way to captivate and be memorable to all she encountered. Carolyn will be dearly missed.
