Obituary

Charles Franklin Westover Jr.

November 26, 1947 - October 12, 2026

Mobile, AL - Charles Westover, 78, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026.

Born on November 26, 1947 in Mobile, AL, Charles was the child of Lorraine Hollinghead and

Charles Franklin Westover. He attended C. F. Vigor High School and went on to earn an

Associates Degree from Faulkner State Community College. He worked as a level 2 operator at

the Mobile Water Service System for 32 years until his retirement in 2002.

Charles was known for his steady kindness, sense of humor, deep faith in Christ, and fierce

devotion to his family. A natural organizer and meticulous planner, he had a heart that was

always oriented toward serving others. He was an active member of Chickasaw Methodist

Church, where he sang in the choir and served faithfully in the Men's Ministry, using his hands

and skills to complete building and repair projects for the church and local families in need.

Charles also gave back to his community by delivering Meals on Wheels to area seniors.

In his neighborhood, Charles was the ultimate helping hand and a cornerstone of support.

Neighbors quickly became lifelong friends who relied on him for everything. He served as the

unofficial chauffeur for neighbors in need of a lift and was the trusted guardian of their homes

and mail whenever they were away. Above all, Charles cared for his family and friends deeply

and intentionally. He was the continuous thread keeping everyone connected, making a point to

check in regularly-especially during bad weather and severe storms, ensuring every person he

loved was safe and secure.

In his downtime, Charles enjoyed watching NASCAR and football, meticulously tending to his

yard, and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids and other

family.

He is survived by his spouse of 55 years, Mary Lou Westover; son, Scott Westover; daughter-inlaw,

Christine Westover; 2 beloved grandchildren, Sophie Westover and Kaleb Westover; sister,

Marianne Reaves; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family

and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorraine Westover; sister, Marilyn

"Butchie" Stainton; and brother-in-law, Richard "Dicky" Stainton.

A celebration of Charles' life will be held on October 15, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Mobile Memorial

Gardens Funeral Home, located at 6040 Three Notch Road in Mobile, AL. Visitation will begin

at 11:00 AM, and burial will follow the service at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
