Charles Whitten Jr.

Charles Wesley Whitten, Jr., affectionately known as "Chuck," passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on July 20, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama, Charles was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His life was marked by quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and a deep commitment to those he loved-leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

The son of the late Charles Wesley Whitten, Sr. and Maria Van Loock Whitten, Charles grew up in Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy University before commissioning into the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. During his distinguished service, Charles became a naval aviator and proudly participated in the Apollo 11 Lunar Spacecraft Recovery Mission in July 1969-a moment in history that reflected his courage and commitment to country. After four years of military service, he began a successful 30-year career with IBM as a Client Representative, earning the respect of colleagues through his integrity, work ethic, and leadership until his retirement in August 2001.

On January 5, 1977, Charles married the love of his life, Judith Ann Frontiero Whitten, and together they shared 48 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion. He was a devoted stepfather and a proud grandfather, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family.

An avid outdoorsman, Charles enjoyed hunting-whether for alligator or deer-as well as fishing the rivers and waters he loved. His passion for golf filled countless weekends and after retirement, many more weekdays.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, as well as numerous beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy; stepchildren, Jon (Emma) Horn and Donna Horn; cherished grandchildren, Kennedy, Tucker, and Wesley Horn; devoted sister, Lucille Whitten Allen; and a host of adored nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens, with Rob Couch officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Charles's name to the Alzheimer's Association, in honor of his enduring spirit and in support of the many families touched by this disease.
