In Loving Memory of Clara Bell (Greer) Wright, age 93, of Wilmer, Alabama.
It is with profound sadness, but also great joy, that we announce the passing of Clara Bell (Greer) Wright, who peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour on May 5, 2025, surrounded by family. Clara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister, friend, and a cherished member of New Life Traditional Baptist Church of Semmes, and previously Woodridge Baptist Church in Mobile.
Born on August 25, 1931, in Uriah, Alabama, Clara was the daughter of Earl and Mae Bell Greer. She grew up in Uriah, along with her six brothers and two sisters. Being the oldest, Clara was like a second mother to her siblings. Even beyond their childhood years, she continued to be a great comfort and loving sister to them. All of them preceded her in death.
Clara worked as a dietician at the old Providence Hospital for 15 years. But her true passion and calling was serving as a foster parent, starting in 1972, and reluctantly retiring in 2000, when she was no longer able to fulfill the calling. Through the years she shared her love and compassion with over 100 foster kids.
Clara married Hilton Wright on August 28, 1948, and they remained together until Hilton preceded her in death in 2010. In their 61 years of marriage, she was a devoted mother to four children. She was preceded in death by her son, David (Linda) Wright. She is survived by her children: Faye (Mike) Henson, Linda (Joey) Christopher, and John (Laurie) Wright. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.
Clara, Mom, Granny, Aunt, Gigi, leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. She cherished her family, including her Christian family, and put everyone ahead of herself. She always had a kind word and made everyone feel loved. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories and love she shared with us. Though she may be gone, her spirit will continue to live on in our hearts and minds. She will be dearly missed, but we rejoice in knowing she is in Heaven now, celebrating and fellowshipping with her Saviour.
The family will have a visitation to greet friends on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. with a celebration of her beautiful life following at 10:00 a.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, Alabama. Interment will take place in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6100 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, Alabama 36619.
