David James
Roberts
February 18, 1977 – June 8, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David James Roberts, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend. David peacefully departed this life on June 8, 2026, at the age of 49 in Mobile, Alabama.
Born on February 18, 1977, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, David grew up with a profound curiosity about how things worked, especially anything with a power source. He worked many years as an adjunct at the University of South Alabama and a professional mechanical engineering PE. David's innovation and dedication left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the projects he championed.
David's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he dedicated much of his time to creating lasting memories with them. He loved crawfish boils and family gatherings. David was filled with jokes and had a wonderful sense of humor. David loved his family unconditionally. His spirit, kindness, and unwavering support will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Hollis Roberts; maternal grandparents, Rawley and Edna Martin; and paternal grandparents, Van and Beverly Claire Roberts.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Ricki Roberts and their daughter, Ella Roberts, who was his pride and joy. Ella could persuade David to do almost anything, even TikTok videos. Ricki and Ella both shared a bond with David that could not be broken. David is also survived by his father, Thomas B. Roberts; brother, Tommy Roberts and his wife, Danci Roberts; mother-in law & father-in-law, Ernie and Lorraine Johnson; sister-in-law, Jennifer Billingsley and her husband, James; sister in law, Rachel Johnson; brother-in-law, Eric Johnson and his wife Jennifer; nieces, Avery Roberts, Emery Roberts, Sarah Endt (Lucas), Hannah Billingsley, Laylah Billingsley, and Mitzi Jo Billingsley; nephew, Huck Billingsley; great nephew, Judd Endt; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate David's life will be held at a later date, offering friends and family the opportunity to honor his legacy. Details regarding the services will be announced as they become available.
In this difficult time, we encourage all who knew David to reflect on the profound impact he had on our lives and to carry forward his spirit of inquiry, love and laughter. It is in this shared remembrance that his memory will continue to thrive. David will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
