David Smithweck, Sr.

David McNeely Smithweck, age 81 years passed away June 1, 2025 at his home in Mobile, Al. David was married to Marcia (Susie) Wadlow Smithweck for 58 years. They have two children David McNeely Smithweck Jr. (Christy) and Kathryn Charlotte Metzger (Michael). Four grandchildren Michael McNeely Metzger, Ella Grayson Smithweck, Emily Claire Metzger, and Evan McNeely Smithweck. David is survived by siblings William Tyre Smithweck (Patricia), Sally Duke Jacob's (Coy) and Marian Suzanne Inzina (Tommy), many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents Tyre McNeely Smithweck and Charlotte Cox Smithweck.

David was born in Marietta GA August 9, 1943. He and his dear friends enjoyed studying local history and spent many hours hunting for Civil War relics around Kennesaw Mountain. When he moved to Mobile as a teen he continued his love of local history. He became good friends with many local Historians who shared his interest and became involved in their research and explorations. He enjoyed writing about Mobile History and published several books on the subject. The latest being " The Tecumseh in Mobile Bay, the sinking of the Civil War Iron Clad.

David graduated from Murphy High School and received an Associate Of Science degree and Certificate of Theology Studies from Springhill College.

Seargent David M. Smithweck proudly served his country in the Army National Guard of Alabama and received an honorable discharge on April 19, 1970. David was a member of Sons Of Confederate Veterans, Military Order of Stars and Bars, and Son of the American Revolution.

David was employed in the family automobile business, the Library at Springhill College and retired as a Funeral Director from Radney Funeral Homes.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 on Thursday June 5 at Christ United Church 6101 Grelot Rd. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 followed by interment at Mobile Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Christ United Church, 6101 Grelot Rd., Mobile, Al 36609.
