Deborah Owens

March 9, 1953 — September 16, 2025

Deborah "Debbie" Susan Swartz Owens, age 72, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, made her eternal journey from this life at a local health care facility in Mobile, AL, on Tuesday, the 16th day of September 2025.   She was born on March 9th, 1953, to her parents, Jean Nicholas Swartz and Fannie C. Gill Swartz, who preceded her in death.

Debbie resided in Mobile most of her life, and following graduation from W. P Davidson High School, she married her husband, Edward Wayne Owens, on July 20, 1974. She spent her life split between helping her husband run their local automotive shop and running her family's household.

Debbie loved the beach and camping there. She would often load up all the kids in the family and pull a pop-up camper to Dauphin Island, where she and the kids would set up in the campground. They would then play cards or ride bikes through the campground until her husband was ready to take the boat out. She loved going fishing with her husband and all the kids. She spent many summers in that camper or on the boat, making lasting memories.

Debbie was also preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ray Benton Swartz and Florence Virginia Maynard Swartz; maternal grandparents, James Jasper Gill and Mary Jane McFall Gill; her mother-in-law, Verla Owens; her eldest sister, Sharon Swartz Watts; her sister-in-law, Carol Robbins; and her niece, Melissa Watts Smith Warren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Wayne Owens, her son, Christopher Wayne Owens (Janelle), sister, Carolyn Virginia Swartz Clark (Ray), granddaughters, Madeline Owens and Lydia Owens, nieces and nephew, Suzanne Michele Watts Smith, Michael Thomas Watts, Angela White Harrington, and many loving cousins and other relatives.

A celebration of her life will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens on Friday, September 26, 2025; the family will welcome those who wish to pay their respects from 1:00-2:00 PM with a Chapel Service promptly at 2:00 PM, followed by a Graveside prayer
