Dorothy Annette Hofmister, 92 years of age, entered her eternal home on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Hatley Nursing Home in Clanton, Alabama. Dorothy, affectionately called "Dot" by her friends and family, was born May 13, 1932 in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Herman and Erna Dickens. She was the fourth child of five children, all preceded her in death.
Dorothy is survived by; Terry (Mona) Newell of Gulfport, MS, Andy (Kim) Newell of Mobile, AL, Carolyn Mims of Clanton, AL, and Tommy (Rachel) Pierce of Mobile, AL; thirteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; and twenty one great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by; son, Michael Newell; daughter in law, Shelia Newell; son in law, Wendell Mims; and grandson, Mikkel Newell.
Dorothy was a avid church attender, while living in Mobile she attended Tanner Williams Assembly in Wilmer, Alabama. Later she attended First Assembly of God in Clanton, Alabama. Dorothy loved to read her bible, praying for others and attending revivals. She enjoyed baking and cooking meals for her large family. "No one was to go home hungry" was her motto. Chicken and dumplings and chocolate pies were among her specialties.She was a loving and caring person,and devoted mother. All those who knew her, knew her kindness and gentle spirit. She leaves behind her loving memory for her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens funeral home on Tuesday, November 12,2024 from 10 am-12, graveside service immediately followed officiated by Reverend Randy Reid.
