Dorothy Marie Mancil, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in Olalla, Washington on September 22, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Mobile, Alabama on February 13, 1937, Dorothy's life was defined by love, care, and unwavering dedication to her family. In 1955, at just 18 years old, she married the love of her life, Johnnie Mancil, who was barely 17 and needed his mother's permission to wed. Their bond was extraordinary, rooted in deep affection and shared adventure. Together, they built a life full of warmth, laughter, and resilience, beginning with Johnnie's service in the Army and continuing through decades of travel and exploration as his engineering career took them across the globe.
Dorothy was a homemaker in the truest sense. Her home was a sanctuary of comfort, nourishment, and safety. She poured her heart into raising her children and caring for generations of family. Her happiest memories were marrying Johnnie and welcoming her children into the world.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie Mancil (2023), and her son, Johnny Mancil Jr. (2022). She is survived by her daughters: Scarlet Mancil and Gale Phillips (Thomas Phillips); grandchildren: Jason Mancil (Jennifer Mancil), David Phillips (Michelle Phillips), Kale Phillips (Amanda Phillips), Grace Elliot (Benjamin Elliot), Dafney Mancil, and Johnny Frank Mancil III; and seventeen great-grandchildren; and her brother, Wesley (Tracy) McClure, who carry forward her legacy of love.
Dorothy found joy in sewing, reading, and collecting treasures from her travels. She and Johnnie brought home memories and keepsakes from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, and Ireland. Each one is a testament to their shared curiosity and connection.
