Dorothy (Jennie) McElroy Strickland, 100, of Pensacola, passed away peacefully in Mobile, Alabama on October 16, 2025. Jennie was Cuba, Alabama, the daughter of James and Mary Lou Johnson McElroy.
She moved to Mobile, Alabama after graduation and worked at Brockley Air Force Base before transferring to McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. She retired after 28 years of civil service.
Jennie moved to Pensacola in 1976 and was a member of the Friendship Class at First Baptist Church in Pensacola where the fellowship was especially dear to her. She and her husband enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of their retirement years traveling, camping, and hiking throughout the United States. She met many people on her life's journey who became close friends. She was also a volunteer at HCA West Florida Hospital for 34 years.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Albert Strickland; her sisters, Evelyn Baker and Bessie Mae Chestnut Jones and her brother, James McElroy.
Survivors include two daughters, Luticia Kovarik (Don) and Dorothy Williamson (Gill); four grandchildren, Jeffrey Williamson (Teri), John Kovarik (Katie), Jack Willimson (Tonia), and Kristen Kovarik, and seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens in Pensacola, Florida.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 1pm. The family will receive friends from 12noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Don Kovarik, Gil Williamson, Jeffrey Williamson, John Kovarik, Jack Williamson, and Malachi Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Building/Expansion at First Baptist Church in Pensacola or the charity of your choice.
