Emma Louise Gandy Richards, a native of Prattville, AL and a resident of Mobile, AL since 1943 passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the age of 99. Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Francis and Frankie Johnson Gandy; brothers, Terrell J. Gandy, Julius F. Gandy and her beloved husband of 53 years, Zillmon "Zeke" Hugh Richards. She is survived by two sons, Hugh F. (Elizabeth) Richards, Larry Wayne Richards; one brother, Rev. James U. Gandy; two granddaughters, Elizabeth R. Emanuel, Jan R. (Dennis) Hayford; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Dorothy S. Gandy; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Louise was a talented musician. A charter member of Greystone Bible Church, she served as organist and pianist for many years. After moving to Mobile, she worked as a telephone operator at Brookley Field and later in this same capacity at the Mobile Infirmary. Graveside services and interment will be held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday 9:30 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southern Alabama FCA, P.O. Box 16705, Mobile, AL 36616 or to Big Oak Ranch for Boys and Girls, Inc., P.O. Box 507, Springville, AL 35146. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Lynwood Nursing Home, Lighthouse Unit for the very compassionate care given to this special lady.
