Ernest Gene Sliman, a beloved school teacher and dedicated member of various associations, passed away on July 13, 2023, at the age of 84. He was known for his passion for education and his kind-hearted nature. Ernest's life was a testament to his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

Born on August 9, 1938, in Oakdale, LA, Ernest grew up with a thirst for knowledge. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from McNeese State University in 1960. He furthered his education by earning his graduate degree from Stephen F Austin University and Post-graduate degrees from Tulane University and the University of Tennessee. After college he embarked on a fulfilling career as a school teacher. Throughout his years in education, he touched the lives of countless students, imparting not only knowledge but also values that would shape their futures. Ernest's dedication to teaching was admired by both colleagues and parents alike. He was recognized in the Who's Who of Secondary Teachers.

In addition to his career in education, Ernest also worked in medical sales. His hard work and perseverance earned him recognition and respect within the industry. His ability to connect with people made him successful in building relationships and providing valuable guidance.

Ernest's involvement in various professional organizations was a testament to his passion for continuous growth. He was an active member of the National Teachers' Association, Louisiana Teachers' Association, Pre-Med Society, and Louisiana Jaycees. Through these associations, he expanded his knowledge, networked with like-minded individuals, and contributed to the betterment of his community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ernest had a vibrant personal life filled with diverse interests and hobbies. He had an unwavering loyalty to his beloved sports teams - the New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers, and New Orleans Pelicans. His enthusiasm for sports brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. Ernest also enjoyed engaging in friendly games of Dominoes and spent many cherished hours exploring history books and watching historical movies.

Above all else, Ernest cherished spending time with his loved ones. Whether it was gathering around the dinner table for family meals or embarking on memorable vacations, he treasured every moment shared with his family. Ernest loved his wife, Jeanne immensely. Although he achieved much in his educational and professional endeavors, his greatest accomplishment was marrying Jeanne and having a wonderful family to love. He was a pillar of strength and an unwavering source of love and support.

Ernest Gene Sliman will be fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication to education, his warm and caring nature, and his love for his family. His impact on the lives of others will forever be cherished and celebrated.

Ernest leaves behind his wife, Jeanne Wheeldon Sliman of Mobile; son, George John Sliman of Mobile; daughters, Suzanne Sliman Schaefer (Raymond) of New Orleans, Lisa Sliman Miller (Gregory) of New Orleans, Mary Elizabeth Sliman of Dallas; son, Michael Patrick Sliman of Chattanooga; 14 grandchildren, Brandi Landry (Jerome), Tiffany Gomez, Ashley Mahne (Reid), Stephanie Heisler (Sean), Nicole Virgil (Nicholas), Jordan Schaefer, Gregory Cortinas, Christian Cortinas, Kaylie Sliman Whatley (Alec), Davis Sliman, Lizzy Sliman, Jakob Sliman, Joshua Sliman, and Jonah Sliman; 9 great-grandchildren, Roman, Emma Rae, Penelope, Evelyn, River, Ethan, Sophia, and Dominic; brother-in-law, Gary Surdyke; sister-in-law, Joan Sliman, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, George J. Sliman; mother, Julia Farris; son, David Michael Sliman; brothers, James Sliman, Bill Sliman, and Emile Sliman; sisters, Gloria Meek and Linda Surdyke.

A visitation will be held on July 20, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Savior Catholic Church located at 1801 Cody Rd, Mobile, AL, 36695. This will be followed by a Funeral Mass at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with Father David Tokarz preciding. All are welcome to attend and pay their respects to this remarkable individual who touched the lives of so many.

Following the funeral mass, a committal service will be held at the graveside at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery followed by a a celebration of life luncheon at Our Savior Catholic Church.

Ernest Gene Sliman's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
