Obituary

Gail Shirley, age 86, passed away in Mobile, AL on July 5, 2026.

Gail Shirley is a woman to remember and forever will be a legacy in Alabama. She was born and raised in Gordo, Alabama, along with six siblings. Growing up in a small town, she learned the value of security, faith, and family. She applied this wisdom when she married the love of her life, Joe Shirley. She created her family of 4 that grew within time. Gail was the shiny example to show how to stand by your man, especially to her Joe. Her daughter and her son learned by example how to be a good person, and so on to her grandchildren. Gail Shirly was a God-fearing woman, teacher, mother, grandmother, aunt, and great-grandmother.

Gail Shirley became the woman a community to go to for advice, wisdom, and nurture. She devoted her lifetime giving to community through prayer, fostering children, fostering animals, teaching, and love. She taught that happiness comes from within and is a choice you must make every day. She was abundantly kind. She was also fiercely and passionately protective of her family and loved ones. Her heart and dedication touched so many lives, and her legacy will continue to inspire generations of family and the community she nurtured. She lived a life filled with faith, generosity, and deep devotion to those she loved and carried the spirit of giving in everything she did.

Gail's earthly chapter has ended, but her story continues through each of us. Every act of kindness, every family gathering, every prayer, every moment we choose love over anger-we continue the legacy she started.

She is survived by her children, Wanda Elliott, Joseph Shirley, her grandchildren: Danielle Elliott Bull, and Richard Elliott (Hope Elliott), and her great children; Parker Bull and Eliana Grace Elliott.

Services will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, July 17, 2026, with visitation from 11:00 am until the 12:00 pm service time. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
