Known as Dubby, Dad and PaPa to his family and friends.
He was survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Eileen, and 6 children Kimberly (David) Buck, Ramona (Brett) Ardizone, Kathy (Dan) Johnstone, Darcey (Floyd) Ansley, Jody (Naomi) Rodgers, and Stacey Steele. He was also survived by 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 sons, Wiley Rodgers and Franklin (Barbara) Shuford, and other members of his immediate family.
Dubby graduated from Vigor High School in 1953 and then later received a Civil Engineering degree from University of South Alabama. He worked at Alabama Power before going to work with the Corps of Engineers, retiring from the Corps after 41 years of service. He and Eileen have been members of Cottage Hill and then Luke 4:18 for approximately 50 years. Dubby loved the game of golf and playing dominoes with their close friends on Friday nights, but not as much as he loved “sweet treats” and his adored dog, Abbee! He also enjoyed relaxing in his big chair, as well as working with tools and tinkering on broken things until they were fixed. He was a gentle and kindhearted Dad and PaPa and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren loved him dearly. His laughter and funny sense of humor were one of a kind and will never be forgotten. Dubby and Eileen enjoyed many years raising and loving their “His, Hers, and Ours” family while staying devoted to one another into their golden years. During the last several years, as life has changed, they each had the privilege of taking care of one another in sickness and in health. Now, our gentle and kind Dubby, Dad, and PaPa celebrates eternal life in the presence of Jesus and alongside his sweet sons.
