Geraldine "Gerri" Hunter, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on September 7, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama, Gerri lived a full and joyful life rooted in faith, family, and love for God's creation.
A proud native of the Gulf Coast, Gerri spent most of her adult life in New Orleans, a city she cherished for its warmth, spirit, and charm. She worked for more than 20 years in the insurance industry, where she was known for her professionalism, dedication, and kindness toward everyone she met.
Gerri had a deep love for animals, especially her own pets who were constant companions throughout her life. She was happiest when surrounded by her family whom she adored and supported endlessly.
Her love of travel took her to many beautiful places, but her heart always returned to the Smoky Mountains, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends at the Fairhope craft show, finding joy in simple moments of laughter, creativity, and connection.
A devoted Christian woman, Gerri was a longtime member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church, where her faith shone through in her generosity, compassion, and unwavering spirit.
Gerri is survived by her loving brother, Ray Hardy and his wife, Judy, as well as her cherished nieces and nephews: Ray Hardy, Jr. and his wife Pam, Debbie Hardy, Joe Thompson, Eugene Howard, III and his wife Susanne, Timothy Howard and his wife Dorothy, Stephen Howard and his wife Leslie, Jonathan Howard and his wife Kara, and Jennifer Everhart and her husband Brandon. She is also survived by an abundance of great-nieces and great-nephews who brought her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tim Vaughn and Lena Vaughn, Irma Vaughn, her sisters Eloise Thompson and her husband Woody Thompson, and her sister Connie Howard and her husband Woodrow Eugene Howard, Jr., and her nephew, John Phillip Hardy, Sr.
Gerri's warmth, humor, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Though she has gone to her heavenly home, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in her honor at Cottage Hill Baptist Church Chapel on Friday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and share in remembering her beautiful life.
