Glenda Lou Tanner, a longtime member of Woodridge Baptist Church, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017. Mrs. Tanner was born February 24, 1940 in Francesville, IN, but her family soon after moved to the west coast. She spent much of her early life, until she was married, in the entertainment industry singing with her sisters, Carolyn Magorian and Jean Lambert. They were first known as the Three Little Country Girls featured on the County Barn Dance television show, then the Circle City Sisters and later known as the Smith Sisters. She had fond memories of singing, entertaining, and traveling with many well know singers of the time. In 1958, she was introduced to a "military boy", as she would refer to her husband. They were engaged a short three months later and married in June of 1959. The couple started their life together in southern California but moved several times and finally settled in Mobile, AL. She and her husband, Donald, raised a close knit family with Biblical principles which she continued after his death. Glenda always had the desire to support missions and was known by her Church family as the "bear lady". She, with the help of several ladies, sewed thousands of stuffed bears which were taken around the world with the message "Jesus Loves Me" in various languages. She is remembered as a special, caring, and loving Mom, Gma and, GGma by her family and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Tanner is preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Goldie Smith; husband, Donald Tanner; and brother, Marvin Smith. She is survived by her son, Ronald Tanner (Kristi); daughter, Lori Parker (Michael); sisters, Carolyn Magorian (Raymond), Jean Lambert (Gary); grandchildren, Devin Parker (Lindsay), Heather Barnett (Michael), Victoria Peavy (Zachary), Victor Tanner, and Luke Tanner; great-grandchildren, Zoey Parker, Ellie Parker, Connor Barnett, and Kayden Barnett. Celebration of Life service will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church, 2700 Schillinger Rd.,S., Mobile, AL, Saturday, October 14th, 2017 from 11am - 12noon with visitation from 10am - 11am. Interment will be at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
