Gregory Forman

April 12, 1949 — July 17, 2023

Gregory Lee Forman, age 74, and resident of Theodore, Alabama, passed on July 17, 2023. Gregory was born on April 12, 1949 in Rockford, Illinois, to his parents Lee and Lou Forman. He grew up in Menasha, WI, and has called Theodore, AL home since 1974.

After graduating high school from Wentworth Military Academy, Greg attended the University of Arkansas where he played on the tennis team. Greg was inducted into the Wentworth Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018 for tennis.

The food business brought Greg to Mobile where he was a Broker for many brands including Tyson and Tropicana. His largest clients were Delchamps Supermarkets and Greers Market.  Advantage Sales and Marketing, formerly Marketing Specialists started with 7 employees and over the next 20 years they increased to 26 offices and over 1,000 employees when he retired in 1997.  Today, it is the largest Products, Sales and Marketing Agency worldwide.  After retirement, Greg invested in other businesses giving business advice and life advice to many people over the years.  He served on the Board of Tyson Foods, Girl Scouts of America and Second Harvest Food Bank and was the President of the National Food Brokers Association.

As a member of Christ United Church for 25 years, Greg served as a Stephens Minister, served on the Wesley Foundation, Head of Trustees of Administrative Board and Financial Council, Trainer for Capital Campaign, Host of delegate for Annual Conference and lead a Small Group Bible Study for 20 years. 

Greg and Vernell fell in love in Arkansas and their love for each other was evident to everyone that spent time with them.  They traveled the world together where they made lifelong friendships.  Greg loved spending time with family and friends and was always the life of the party.  He loved living on the Dog River, hunting, fishing, golf and was passionate about Arkansas Razorbacks sports.  He made an impact on everyone that met him and he will be greatly missed.

Gregory was preceded in death by; Parents, Lee and Lou Forman; and Brother, Mark Forman.

He is survived by; His loving wife of 53 years, Vernell Shearer Forman; Brothers, Jeff and Nancy Forman of Birmingham, AL, and Randy and Eileen Forman of Chicago, IL; Sister-in-Law Avis Prince of Knoxville, TN; Nieces and Nephews, Dale and Lisa Thomas of Scott, AR, Blake and Jennifer Prince of Knoxville, TN, and Anna Forman of Chicago, IL; Great Nieces and Nephews, Addison and Carter Prince of Knoxville, TN, and Landon Forman of Chicago, IL; God-children, Mark, Rachel, Kelsey, and Natalie Donnell of Mobile, AL, and Brock, Mary Claire, and Mimi Kelly from Saltillo, MS; As well as many friends including Jeff Spiller, Bob Donnell and the “Lunch Bunch” special friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ United Church with the pastor of the church, Rob Couch, officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service at Christ United Church from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: “Lunch Bunch” friends, and Randy Eckhoff.

The family would like to thank all of Greg’s neighbors and friends and a very special thanks to David Hooper, Maida Omerinovic and Charlie Cook for always being there for the Forman’s.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations to Christ United Church.
