Henry Edgar Bolton Jr., 91 passed away on May 25, 2026, in Mobile, AL. Eldest son of the late Henry Edgar Bolton Sr. and Constance Saunders Bolton, he was born on December 10, 1934, in Irvington, AL, (in exchange for a wagonload of cabbage.). He was a long-time resident of Theodore, and he was quite proud of this community. He was a 1952 graduate of Theodore High School. He continued his education and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1956 (in exchange for several successful pecan crops). Mr. Bolton enjoyed an accomplished career with International Paper company for over 33 years. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Theodore where he served as a deacon and immensely enjoyed his Sunday School classes. He truly was a foodie before the term became so mainstream! He savored a good meal, and he would travel anywhere in the southeast to eat--be it fine dining or BBQ on a side street in Pascagoula, MS.
He is preceded in death by his brother Charles Nathan Bolton and his sister Anita Bolton Mitchell. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Phyllis B. Bolton; children Henry Edgar (Terri) Bolton, III, Edie Bolton (Michael) Gibson, Scott Allen Bolton, and Frank Jay (Lisa) Bolton; grandchildren Henry Edgar (Dylan) Bolton IV, Terrell Anne (Isaac) Anderson, Kesley (Chad) Banks, Brandt (Amber) Gibson, Caitlin (Kyle) Denton, and Ally Bolton; great grandchildren Raelyn, Brenleigh, Ellis, Sam, Barrett, and Colter. He also was blessed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends in which he took great delight.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Community Foundation of South Alabama (CFSA) Constance S. Bolton Scholarship Fund (Constance S. Bolton Scholarship Fund)or Anita S. Edwards Scholarship Fund. (Anita S. Edwards Scholarship Fund) or contributions may be mailed to P.O. Box 990 Mobile, AL 36601.
Services will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service.
