Henry Leo "Diddy" Burgess, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama. He was 104 years old.
Henry was born on May 21, 1921, and lived a remarkable life marked by quiet strength, dedication, and deep love for his family.
He proudly served his country in World War II from 1942 to 1946, demonstrating courage and commitment during one of the most pivotal times in history.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary Rachel, and his grandson, Michael W. Burgess, Jr.
He is survived by his four children:
• Donna (Dave) Kowalski
• Robert (Sue) Burgess
• Michael (Barbara) Burgess, Sr.
• Donald Alan Burgess
He was the proud grandfather of:
• John Wagner
• Rachel (Patrick) Sheehan
• Robert (Jennifer) Burgess, II
• Christopher J. (Charlie) Burgess
• Kristin (Tony) McCarron
• Christopher A. (Linda) Burgess
He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as "Papaw."
Henry's long life was a testament to resilience, service, and the enduring bonds of family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be at St Dominic's Catholic Church on Tuesday July 15 at 10am - 11am with Catholic Mass of Burial to follow. Reception after the mass will be at the home of Mr and Mrs Tony McCarron. Interment and graveside service will be at Magnolia Cemetery Wednesday July 16th at 10am
