James Godwin

James Alton Godwin, a selfemployed realtor in Mobile, AL, died May 5, 2014 at the age of 88. Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Urcle Miller Godwin his parents, Alton and Maggie Brock Godwin his brother, Mose Godwin stepsons, Douglas A. Miller and William D. Miller, Sr., as well as other special relatives and friends. He is survived by one son, Jerry Wayne Sandra Godwin one stepdaughter, Joyce V. Miller daughterinlaw, Nancy V. Miller one sister, Marilyn G. Lewis 10 grandchildren 21 greatgrandchildren 8 greatgreat grandchildren and many other beloved relatives and friends. Mr. Godwin was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Jesters. His passions were Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. In his prime years, he enjoyed hunting, especially turkey, and fishing. He spent many happy days with dear friends at his hunting camp. The family wishes to thank caregiver, Cassandra Philo, the 11th floor nurses and staff at Providence Hospital and Southern Care Hospice for their exceptional care and concern for Mr. Godwin. The family also wishes to thank their church family at Moffett Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:0010:00 A.M on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services, with Rev. Michael Pierce and Steve Miller officiating, will be held at 10:00 A.M. from the Chapel of the funeral home. Music will be provided by Dr. Lee Rider. Pallbearers will be greatgrandsons, Mark Tillman, Jared Nelson, Caleb Nelson, Aaron Whitten, Austin Whitten, Alex Miller, Luke Miller and W. Dulan Miller, III. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
