James Richard "Dick" Havron, born July 12, 1928, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and his wife on June 25, 2026. He was the son of Richard Patrick and Maudia Bassett Havron of Mobile, Al and lived a life marked by faith, service, family and travel. Dick served his country with distinction, first in the United States Marine Corps and later in the United States Air Force Reserves. He pursued engineering as a vocation, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University. As an excellent student, Dick was chosen for membership in the honor societies Phi Kappa Phi (General Scholastic); Pi Tau Sigma (Mechanical Engineering); Scabbard and Blade (Military); and Tau Beta Pi (General Scholastic) all while putting himself through school and participating as an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
In the professional world, Dick worked for International Paper Company for 36 years before retiring and then worked for a Finnish company, Safematic, for a number of years as a consultant traveling to paper mills across the US as well as Finland. His time with International Paper took him and the family across the Southeast as they relocated nine times. His work ethic, reliability, and calm and steady presence were hallmarks of his professional life.
In 1950, Dick married the love of his life, Dorothy McIntosh and together they have celebrated 75 years of marriage. Dick and Dorothy cherished their family deeply, sharing a joyful life with their 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Dick was the consummate Southern gentleman with a delightful sense of humor-always had a joke for you-and the ability to befriend everyone he met.
As a Life Deacon at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, Al, his quiet strength and unwavering faith touched many lives. He poured his love into his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the Lord. His legacy will live on in the stories shared by those who knew him and in the many lives he helped along the way. Dick will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Dick is survived by his wife, Dorothy McIntosh Havron; his children: Linda Havron Mengelt (John), Pamela Havron George, James Richard Havron, Jr (Sandy); grandchildren: Jennifer Mengelt Corridan (Tom}, Heather Havron, Hayley Havron Klein (Garett), Drew Havron (Kate), Amanda George Dubose (Jonathan); great grandchildren: Cullen James Corridan, Hannah Lynn Corridan, Lucy DuBose, William DuBose, Easton Andrew Havron, Mason Brooks Havron. Dick's four siblings who shared his early life and family story and his great grandson James Caleb DuBose pre-deceased him by many years but remained in his heart.
