James D. LeGrone
July 8, 1941 - July 28, 2025
James D. LeGrone, 84, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025. Born in Humboldt, Tennessee, Jimmy made his home in Gautier, Mississippi, where he spent the majority of his life.
A graduate of St. John's Catholic High School in Gulfport, Jimmy was a proud and lifelong member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 624. Over the years, he became known for his skill and versatility of being able to operate just about any type of crane or piece of heavy machinery. In his younger days, he worked alongside his father in paving and asphalt, building not just roads but a legacy of dedication and hard work.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Brenda Higginbotham LeGrone, and by his parents, Alvine and Archie F. LeGrone. He is survived by his daughter and son, Juli (Hubert) Callahan and Archie J. (Stephanie)LeGrone; grandchildren Abby Yocom, Aaron (Lisa) Stone, Adam Stone, and Archer LeGrone; and also one great-grandson, Everett Stone. He will be especially missed by his sister Wanda Haas, with whom he shared a special bond; especially during football season, when they'd swap predictions and gameday TV plans.
A lover of video poker and and a frequent visitor to the casinos, Jimmy was also a quiet and steadfast supporter of St. Jude's and MD Anderson. He was a friend of Bill and had lifelong friends in helping others find their footing in recovery. In his own humble way, he was a true friend to many.
A special thank you to all of those that have helped Jimmy over the years with friendship, health care and companionship.
The doctors and nurses at Mobile Infirmary that worked day and night to give him comfort and peace.
Dr. Brian Persing and Mindy Bustamante, RN who cared for him for a decade.
Dr. Heath Skinner who cured him during a battle with lung cancer.
JP Richardson who has been by his side since 1973. Between the two of them I don't think there is one piece of heavy equipment they couldn't run.
Father Stephen Vrazel who was there for him to share the love, forgiveness and compassion that our Lord offers. During Jimmy's most difficult time he granted him peace, comfort and salvation.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to St. Jude, MD Anderson or to a recovery organization of your choice, in honor of Jimmy's lifelong commitment to helping others.
