James "Jamey" N. Strickland, IV, passed away suddenly in Chickasaw, AL on January 11, 2026, at 60 years of age.
Jamey was a creative spirit with a curious mind and a deep love for history. He built a career in all aspects of videography communicating information through sound and image. In recent years, one of his most meaningful roles was serving his church community, faithfully recording and assisting with music every Sunday at Surge Church, where his talent quietly supported worship week after week. He often spoke of his faith and his interest in scripture, frequently sharing uplifting bible verses with family.
Jamey had an endless curiosity about the world around him. He was especially passionate about the history of Mobile, Alabama, often sharing fascinating details that made the past feel alive, including a documentary of Mobile reflecting both his creativity and his love of local history. His interests were wide-ranging and wonderfully random--music of all kinds, documentaries, sports of every variety and, most devotedly, Auburn athletics. No matter the topic, Jamey seemed to know a little something about everything.
Friends and family lovingly joked that he was the "resident encyclopedia" as he was knowledgeable of a wide variety of subjects. Conversations with Jamey were never dull; they were full of unexpected facts and thoughtful observations.
Jamey's presence will be deeply missed, but his influence-through music, funny and insightful stories, and shared moments-will long remain.
Jamey was preceded in death by his father, James N. Strickland, III; grandparents, Connie and Jim Harris, and Betty and J.N. Strickland.
Left to cherish his memory are his children; Evan (Anna) Strickland, Erin Strickland (Judd Taylor), and Ashton Strickland; mother and stepfather, Diane and Mike Cowen; siblings, Kristi (Kevin) Norment, Carson (Brandy) Strickland, and Tiffany (Rick) Larson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time.
