Joyce B. Clarke, age 95, passed away in Mobile, AL on April 16, 2026.
Mrs. Clarke retired as the head clerk of the United States Federal Probation Office in Mobile, Alabama after thirty years. During retirement she enjoyed the beach, cooking especially gumbo and holiday meals, working in her yard and flower garden, traveling, walking, entertaining and loving her family. She graciously took care of her mother, Lillie Crawford and assisted with her granddaughter, Tiffany’s physical therapy. She was a devoted member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church; and dearly loved her Sunday School class taught by Mary McDowell. She enjoyed making phone calls, mailing cards, delivering flowers and preparing meals for families of the ladies’ class.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank G. Bass; mother, Lillie Crawford; husband, William Clarke; son, Clyde E. Graves, Jr., granddaughter, Joy Graves; great-grandson, Sonny Davis; stepson, Joel Clarke; brothers, George and James Bass, Sr.; sister, Virginia Secrest; and nephew, James Bass, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Brad (Lyn) Graves, stepdaughter, Jane (Bob) Visser, step daughter-in-law, Sasha Clarke, grandchildren: Jeremy Graves, Tiffany Graves, Daniel Clarke and fiancé: Georgianna Baker, John Clarke, great-grandson: Wesley Salva, sister: Norma Rollins, nephews: Terry Dees, Larry Dees, Jimmy Dees, David Rollins, Danny Rollins, niece: Cammie Bishop and a host of other relatives, friends and Kings Mill neighbors.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mona Powell, her loving caretaker, Sylvia Prudhomme, her loving gardening friend and Ruth Wesley, her loving neighbor, for all of their support and companionship throughout the years.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Those attending should line up in procession in the parking area between the funeral home and cemetery 15 minutes prior to service time. Rev. Oliver D. Cagle, Jr. will preside over the service.
