Karen Robertson Combs, age 70, of Theodore, Alabama, passed away on August 2, 2023 after a brief battle with
pancreatic cancer. Her life was lovingly devoted to family first and then to her community. Her favorite role was being
"Mimi" to her grandchildren and hosting countless dinners, holiday events, and fun travel trips for her family.
Karen was born on August 13, 1952 to Mitchell and Jennie Robertson in Mobile, Alabama. After she graduated from
Theodore High School in 1970, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance, followed by a
Master's degree in education at the University of South Alabama. In 1973 she married her husband of 50 years, Tony
Combs, and went on to have two children, Christy and T.C.
Karen was a gifted vocalist and pianist at a young age and so freely shared her gifts as a music educator, a church
pianist, a music minister, and as a private piano teacher for over 30 years. Known for her humble spirit and dedication to
the arts, she shared the gift of music, while also sharing her faith with generations of students at Theodore High School
and congregation members at First Baptist Church of Theodore. In 2015, Karen retired and devoted her life to her
grandchildren and family. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with Leise, her German Shepherd.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Jennie Robertson. She is survived by her devoted husband,
Tony Combs; her siblings Mickey Robertson (Nancy) and Anita Whitfield (Billy); her children Christy Kent (Kevin) and T.C.
Combs (Corey); and her grandchildren, Lauren Bahos (Blake), Weston Combs, John Kent, and Megan Kent.
A celebration of life memorial service will be planned at a later date at First Baptist Church of Theodore.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in the form of contributions to The Larry Kent Memorial Foundation or to
USA Children's and Women's Hospital.
