Larry Seaman

February 11, 1933 — October 26, 2025

Larry Premo Seaman, of Coden, Alabama, was born on February 11, 1933, to Ollie Seaman and Nina Steiner Seaman. One of fourteen children, he learned early the values of family, perseverance, and hard work. In his early years, he traveled the world in the Merchant Marines, working aboard ships and visiting ports in countries around the globe. Then later, he was drafted into the Army and served in the motor pool during the Korean War. During that time, he sent all of his earnings home to support his family.

When he returned, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Collier. Coming from a long line of fishermen, Larry carried on his family's legacy in the seafood industry and became one of the best shrimpers in Bayou La Batre. He thrived on the water, traveling across the Gulf Coast from Key West to Corpus Christi with Jeanette by his side. From shrimping to oystering to crabbing, he did what he loved while providing for his family. Together, they raised six children, and their legacy grew to include 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

His children grew up alongside him on the water, learning the trade and the value of hard work. Over the years, he built countless boats for his children and even a few grandchildren who followed in his footsteps in the seafood industry. His work and his family were the two things he lived for.

Larry and Jeanette shared 59 years of marriage until her passing in 2015. Although a part of him was gone, Larry never stopped working. He continued in the seafood industry for years and later found companionship with Emma Clarke. Even after retiring from the water at the age of 90, he kept his hands busy, spending the past three years in "the shed," building his signature crab traps. Every Friday night, he hosted gatherings there, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, always keeping his family close and connected with laughter and stories filling the space he loved most.

On October 26, 2025, Larry was called home to be with his beloved wife once again.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Nina Seaman; his beloved wife, Jeanette Collier Seaman, and several siblings.

He is survived by his companion, Emma Clarke; his six siblings: Dola Beritiech, Winona Collier, Ollie Seaman SR, Doug Summerall, David Seaman, and Donna Seaman; his six children: Gene Seaman, Joyce Seaman, Bryan (Sybil) Seaman, Michelle (Alan) Clark, Ray (Jeanne) Seaman, and Timmy (Marlene) Seaman; his 16 grandchildren: JR, Christy, Marshall, Saundra, Joyce, Michael, Richard, Jeanette, Premo, Amos, Tucker, Randall, Katie, Dani'el, Darren, Larry, Lamar, and Shelby; along with 14 great-grandchildren.
