Leonard Douglas "Doug" Pridgen passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on November 27, 2025. Affectionately known as Captain Doug by many that knew him, he was born to parents Jamie Leonard Pridgen and Clara O'dell Ellison. Raised in a family with three siblings: Betty (Taylor), Truman, and JoAnn (Watson), he was taught that hard work and focus on family values and relationships were what truly mattered in life. He believed in a no-nonsense approach to life but also knew that you had to take time to enjoy even the simplest things life gives you.
Remembered as a man that was always kind and cared about others, Doug always enjoyed spending time with friends and family whether it be just a boat cruise around the island or family shrimp boil. Always relishing his time on the water deep sea fishing or just a sunset cruise, it was the simple things that made him happiest. As a long-time resident of Dauphin Island, AL, he was able to realize his dream of waterfront living and marvelous sunsets after retiring from his 36-year career at Union Carbide. Obtaining a Master Captain boating license, he chartered many deep-sea fishing trips utilizing his lifelong knowledge of Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico to create memories of catching "the big one" for many others. While he was always in pursuit of the big one himself, his celebration was just as much for those around him. In later retirement, you could most often find him taking long bike rides, boat rides or just having dinner with friends and family.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol; he is survived by his children: Lisa Pridgen of Mobile, AL, Rhonda (Ricky) Knowles of Orange Beach, AL and Tina (Kyle) Lubsen of Pelham, AL; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as a host of additional beloved family members.
Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. graveside service.
