Dr. Lewis Dale Holloway, Jr., 71, crossed to his forever home on September 18, 2025. Lewis, the oldest of four children, was born on January 26, 1954 to Dale and Patricia Holloway. He met Karen Glenn at First Baptist Church Vicksburg, Mississippi, and they were married there on June 11th, 1977.
Lewis graduated from University of Southern Mississippi and earned his doctorate degree there. His 42-year career in education spanned from middle school math teacher to school superintendent of some of the largest districts in the South. Over the years, he's moved from Mississippi to Alaska to Arkansas to Georgia and back to Mississippi again.
Adventurous to the core, Lewis tracked grizzlies in Alaska, hunted impala in Africa, and swam with sharks in the Bahamas. He was a scuba diving instructor on the Gulf Coast and led family hiking expeditions in Sitka, Alaska, whether participants were willing or not. He passed on his outdoorsy spirit to his boys and for many years, he loved meeting up with longtime friends for an annual father-son hunting and camping trip in Colorado.
He was a lifelong runner who ran six miles a day and competed in five marathons. He won skiing competitions at Hoover Lake and fished for salmon and halibut off the coast of Sitka. As much as he enjoyed travel and adventure, his favorite place to be was at home with his wife and sons. He loved to laugh and lived life to the fullest, until he couldn't.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Holloway, and his sons Tray, Luke, and Josh Holloway. His daughter-in-law Colleen Holloway made him a proud Paw Paw to Jude and Anna. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kim Holloway and Jenna (Shawn) Cochran; his sister-in-law Kay; his nephews Ben, Jackson, and Eli; nieces Kristin and Kathryn; and great-niece Wren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Patricia Holloway and his brother Mike Holloway.
Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, September 25 from 1:00 to 2:00 with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
