Louie Patrick "Pat" Wetzel, Sr. passed from this life in his home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 28th, 2024. Pat was a long-time native of Gadsden, Alabama, but relocated to Mobile, Alabama in 1987. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, 3 sons, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Gadsden High School Pat enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country as a member of the Air Police. This ignited his love for law enforcement. After serving in the Air Force he accepted a position as an Alabama State Trooper. He worked hard to continue his education and eventually went on to work for the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and retired as a Lieutenant in 1989. Upon his retirement from the state he continued his career as a certified bank fraud examiner for both Regions and Compass banks.

When Pat was not working he was very devoted to freemasonry. He had been a member of Gadsden Lodge and Mobile Lodge. He held memberships in Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Red Cross of Constantine. Some of his most memorable accomplishments included achieving the role of DeMolay Grand Master and holding officer positions in each lodge he was a member of.

He leaves behind his wife, Helen, sons, Patrick (Kristie), Michael (Catherine), and Brian (Ashley). He is also survived by his Grandchildren, Josh (Paige), Brittney, Kelsi (Saul) José, Keeli (Dylan) Moore, Lily, Bryan, Elie, Mason, Jacob, Devin and Brooke; Great-Grandchildren, Harper, Payton, Elisha, Mercy, and Natalie. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in Death by his parents, William and Nora Wetzel, brothers, Edwin, Gerald, and Richard, sisters, Mary Hill and Geraldine Duke.

Pat was an avid storyteller. Family and Friends will gather for a Memorial Meal and follow in his footsteps by sharing with one another our many stories of him. Details will be announced at a later date.
