Lucille Hope

January 28, 1934 — January 4, 2022

Lucille Montgomery Hope was born on January 28th, 1934, in Lower Peach Tree, Alabama. The only child born to the union of Houston and Jesse Montgomery. While she accepted Christ at an early age in Mt. Vernon, AL., she chose to make Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mobile her final home.
Her early education was acquired in Mobile, Alabama, and culminated with her graduation from Central High School. She continued with her educational quests by attending and subsequently graduating from Alabama State University. In order to further her educational goals, Lucile became a Licensed Cosmetologist while pursuing her primary goal of becoming a teacher. She later went on to receive a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Detroit.
Lucille taught in the Mobile Alabama School System before eventually moving on to the Detroit Public School System where she ultimately retired with nearly 40 years of devoted service. The esteem and respect with which Lucille's colleagues held for her, was exemplified by her decade ling unopposed election as her school's union representative. When financial constraints at the time precluded administrative promotions, Lucille was designated interim Administrator with the acquiescence of staff and administrators alike until her retirement.
Lucille treasured her affiliation with her beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and took part in as many sorority events as possible.
"Cille" as she was affectionately known to family and friends enjoyed sewing and volunteering her time to help the elderly. All of us who were fortunate enough to have known her admired the fact that she was a woman who exemplified class and style as well as professional excellence as an educator.
Lucille leaves to forever cherish her memory, son Robert Lee Wilson (Sherry) of Mobile, AL, Brother Curtis Burnell (Ester) of Passiac, NJ, Sister Ann Williams (Jessie) of Mobile, AL, Sister Carrie Delores Harris (Joe) f Cabin John, MD, Sister Bennetta Wyatt (Johnny) of Birmingham, AL, sister Hortence Christburg, of Montgomery, AL, Grandchildren Brian Wilson, Dian Wilson, Kelvin Wilson, Chasity Wilson, and 7 great-grandchildren, along with a special adopted brother Al Weeks (Dorothy) of Southfield, MI and a host of other relatives and friends.
