Mamie Lou Posey, a devoted servant of God, lifelong educator, and cherished matriarch, stepped into the arms of her Savior on August 21, 2026, at the age of 96.
Born on May 16, 1930, to Henry and Eloise Eubanks, Mamie Lou grew up with a deep love for learning and a heart for service. She attended Blue mountain College, where she earned her degree in English. During the summers of her college years Mamie Lou did volunteer mission work with Native populations in the SW of the U.S. Following graduation, she began her journey in education as an elementary school teacher.
At an early age she felt called to foreign missions, so she pursued her masters degree in religious education and met her beloved husband, Jesse Earl Posey at the seminary. Together, they served faithfully for 33 years with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in the Philippines. Mamie Lou was a seminary professor, student worker, and church planter combining her love for college students with her deep faith. In the latter years of their mission work, she and Earl continued their impact on younger generations by establishing a student center dedicated to supporting and mentoring college students.
Mamie Lou and Earl shared 55 and a half beautiful years of marriage before his passing, creating a partnership rooted in mutual devotion and shared purpose. Mamie Lou was best known for her gifts of teaching, counseling, and hospitality. Her home and heart were always open to anyone in need of a listening ear, a warm meal, or a word of encouragement. Above all, she was a true prayer warrior, whose faithful intercession anchored her family, her students, and her ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Eloise Eubanks; her brother, Brannan Eubanks; and her husband, Jesse Earl Posey.
Her legacy of faith and love lives on through her family. She is survived by her children, Darryl Clark Posey and Trini Cobb; and her eight grandchildren, Sarah, Ahna, Beau, Lora, Jesse, Derrick, Nick and Dawn. She also leaves behind a host of extended family members, former students, and global brothers and sisters in Christ who were touched by her grace.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family requests that everyone gather at the funeral home at 9:30 AM, with the graveside service to follow at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to honor her lifelong missionary legacy to the International Mission Board (IMB) at P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, VA 23230.
