Mandy Morris

May 30, 1931 — April 29, 2020

Elizabeth “Liz” Gardner Morris, 88 years old, departed this life on Wednesday, April 29th at Crowne Health Care, Mobile, AL, where she had resided since 2015.

Liz was born on May 30, 1931, in Lone Pine, LA while also residing in Laurel, MS and Galveston, TX. She then relocated to Mobile, AL where she had been a resident for many years.

She lived a long life, but one of many ups and downs and struggled from mental illness as well as dementia. What she loved most was her son, with special needs and her dog as she raised Poodles, Maltese and Malte-poos for several years. It was unfortunate some of her family had to love her from a distance. With all the stories and memories of the past she will provide us with tears and laughter in the years to come.

Once living at Crowne Health Care, she traveled many miles in her wheelchair scooting around the units all day, every day, until just recently when due to the pandemic they became on lockdown. She always had a story to tell, not all of them were true nor logical, but nonetheless, she believed them to be very real.

Liz is survived by her daughter, Darlena Stratton (Andy) of Gautier, MS; her son, Carl Gardner (Cathie) of Vancleave, MS; she also leaves behind four grandchildren, Ivanna Stratton, Crystal Button (Dodger) of Gautier, MS; Alton Gardner (Katelin) of Vancleave, MS; Wesley Payne (Courtney) of Ocean Springs. Seven great grandchildren, Allison Waltman (Jeremy), Madison Payne, Landon Payne, Kinsley Gardner, Alden Gardner, Kadence Button, Janita Button. She also had two great, great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Ray Gardner; her brother and sisters, John (Maybelle) Bryant, Huey Gene (Vada) Bryant, Kathryn Davis, Gladys (Dewey) Taylor, Joyce Tucker, Mary (Dusty) Rhodes and Obria (Pat) Jones. She was also preceded in death by her very special friend Bill Nicholas.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family will have a private graveside service Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens, located at 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619. We ask everyone to observe the ten-person limit to protect us all. The graveside service will be officiated by Justin (JJ) Joiner of Biloxi, MS.

A special thank you to Crowne Health Care and Comfort Care Hospice, especially to her Nurse, Vanessa, for their very special care, many phone calls and support. Another special thank you to Laura Kay McBride and Lisa Nicholas.

May you now be able to rest in peace. Ecclesiastes 3 (KJV) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven; … a time to die … a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance; … a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. The healing begins now.
