Matthew Underwood

Matthew Wilson (Willie) Underwood, 64, returned to his heavenly home on January 26, 2016, after an unexpected stroke.
Wilson was born on March 19, 1951 in Dothan, Alabama to his parents, Carl Etheredge and Henri Alyne Underwood. He graduated from Rehobeth High School in Dothan, Alabama and went on to finish railroad school. Wilson married Judy Strickland in 1971. They raised their daughter, Keri in Marietta, Georgia and he worked as a train dispatcher at CSX railroad. Wilson and Judy moved to Springfield, Missouri where he worked for BNSF railroad from 1992-1994. In 1994 they moved to Fort Worth where they lived until 1998. From 1998-2012 they lived in The Woodlands, Texas where he retired from BNSF railroad. They moved to Mobile, Alabama in 2012.
After retirement, Wilson enjoyed playing golf when he wasn't spending time with his grandson, Logan or volunteering at church. He spent hours by volunteering at church in the parking lot ministry, greeting, cleaning crew, and on the Building Committee. He actively attended church and bible study and/or small groups. He had a passion for serving like Christ did. He was an incredibly sweet man, true southern gentleman, positive sounding board, great friend, and amazing father, grandfather, and husband.
Wilson is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Keri; and his grandson, Logan.
Services will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church, 2700 Schillinger Road South, Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, January 30th. The family will receive friends from 10:00-12:00 noon, followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 12:00 noon. Brother John Tucker will officiate the service. A reception will follow at Clear Water Christian Church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers individuals should consider sending donations in Wilson's memory to the Building Fund at Clear Water Christian Church. The address is 2524 Newman Road, Mobile, Alabama 36608.
