Mildred Hortense Davis

Mildred Hortense Towers Davis, age 91, passed away peacefully on February 2nd in New Market, Alabama, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on August 25, 1934, in McKenzie, Alabama, Mildred lived a long and meaningful life grounded in love, faith, and family.

Mildred devoted her professional life to public service with the Department of the Army, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, advancing through her career and retiring from a leadership role.

She had a deep and lasting love for music and dancing, passions that remained with her throughout her life. Above all, Mildred treasured time with her family—family gatherings, shared laughter, and quiet, simple moments together were what she held most dear. She remained guided by a steadfast faith in the Lord, which was a source of comfort and strength throughout her life.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Lottie Towers; her brother, Frank Towers; her beloved husband, James Davis, Jr.; and her children, Darrell Huff Jr., Linda Towers, and Gayle Rosignol.

She is survived by her son, Fred McDavid, and her daughters, Debi Towers and Melissa (Chris) Osborne, who will forever cherish her love and guidance. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, each a living testament to the legacy of love and faith she nurtured across generations.

Mildred will be remembered for her love of music and dance, her devotion to her family, and her enduring faith. She was a woman who lived life on her own terms—strong-willed, resilient, and fiercely loving. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored by all whose lives she touched.

Family and friends are welcome to attend visitation at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Mobile, Alabama, with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service and burial will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
