Rebecca Owens

October 26, 1960 — November 2, 2025

Rebecca "Becky" Cassady Owens was born on October 26, 1960, in Tulle, France, where her father, Lt. Col. Richard Cassady, and her mother, Daisy Lee Cassady, were stationed with the United States Air Force. After her father completed his tour, the family returned to Meridian, Mississippi, where Becky grew up and graduated from Meridian High School in 1979. After she graduated, she moved to Mobile, Alabama where she spent the remainder of her sixty-five years.

Becky dedicated more than twenty years of her life to serving others as a Registered Nurse. Her tenacity in advocating for those in need was simply who she was. That same steadfastness defined her love for Jesus, the beach, animals, her children, and her grandchildren.

In 2005, Becky gave her life to Christ and became a member of Dayspring Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member for two decades. She was committed to studying Scripture and living out her faith, and she lovingly impressed the truths of the Gospel upon her children and grandchildren. Becky professed that she looked forward to entering heaven with the awe and joy of a child, just like Jesus taught, and she lived with that anticipation in her heart.

Becky rarely met an animal she didn't love-with the firm exception of snakes! A devoted animal advocate, she volunteered with multiple rescue organizations, personally funded veterinary care for stray animals, and worked tirelessly to help them find safe and loving homes. Over the years, dozens of those strays became her own beloved pets.

The beach was Becky's favorite place on earth. She delighted in long days by the shore, toes in the sand, listening to the waves. She often said that the beach was where she felt closest to the Lord, surrounded by the beauty of His creation.

Her love for the beach evolved into a passion for art. She created beautiful pieces from shells and treasures gathered on her beach walks, and her company, Island Art by RO, was featured in several shops on Dauphin Island. Some of her happiest moments were spent sharing this creative joy with her grandchildren-hours of painting, designing, imagining, and making memories that will be cherished forever.

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, the Lord welcomed Becky Home. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her children. She is greeted in Heaven by her parents, Richard and Daisy Cassady, and her grandchild, Baby O. She is survived by her sons, Alec (Megan) Owens and Colby (Jessica) Owens; her sister, Debbie (Wade) Murphy;and her grandchildren, Michael Paul, Adam, Ryan, Michelle, and Alexandra.

The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude for the outpouring of love for our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt over the time of her illness and passing. In lieu of flowers, Becky wished for donations to be made to an animal rescue organization of choice, in keeping with her lifelong love and advocacy for God's creatures.

The visitation will be on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to Noon at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, Alabama. The funeral will begin at Noon with burial immediately following at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
