Reola Owens

Reola McLain Owens, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022 at Covenant Care at Ascension Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL. She was born on June 5, 1936 in Mobile, AL and grew up in Coden. She graduated from Alba High School in 1953 and worked as a secretary at various Mobile businesses. She retired to her family property in Coden, AL, where she enjoyed the outdoors, sunsets, entertaining friends, reading, bird watching, and painting and was a member of several mystic societies. Gardening was her true passion. Reola was a member of the Belle Fountaine Garden Club and was a Master Gardener. Her derby parties, fish fries, oyster dressing and gumbo were enjoyed by all! She loved sharing stories and was affectionately called "Meme" by her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Reola enjoyed traveling, especially to Alabama football games with her husband and rooting on the Crimson Tide. Her husband of 66 years, Hulen Owens, was her dance partner and best friend. She is preceded in death by her mother, Jane Weekley Callaway; father, Frank McLain; step father Jackson Callaway; son, Harrison Owens; and brothers William (Bill) McLain and Kenneth (Kenny) McLain. She is survived by her husband, Hulen Owens, daughter, Denna Owens Morris (Donald), cherished granddaughters and great-grand children. A graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 12450 Irvington Bayou La Batre Hwy., Bayou La Batre, AL 36544 on Monday, March 21 at 10:00 am.
