Obituary

Richard E. Hayes went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2026. He was born in West Point, Mississippi on October 12, 1946, and grew up in Mobile, Alabama. He was a resident of Birmingham, Alabama at the time of his passing.

Richard served in the National Guard and spent the remainder of his career as a highly successful real estate agent and broker. He and his business partner, Janice Folmer, worked together for 35 years, most recently at ARC Realty Company in Birmingham.

Richard was married to Cheryl Dickerson, and together they had one son, Richard Thomas "Tommy." Tommy is married to April Owens, and they have one son, Peyton. Richard loved his family dearly, and his grandson Peyton was the "apple of his eye."

Richard was a delightful man who never met a stranger. He cared deeply about the well-being of others and brought joy and laughter wherever he went. The world was a better place because he was here.

Richard is survived by his son, Tommy, and his wife, April, and their son, Peyton; his sister, Mary Thomas; his nieces, Robin Roberts and Ellen Foley, and Ellen's spouse, Becky Moskowitz; as well as his great-nieces, great-nephews, and their spouses and children.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheryl Dickerson; his mother, Dell Fillingim; and his sister, Bonnie Rice. Richard will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, located at 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619. Family and friends are asked to please gather in the main parking lot.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take someone you love out to eat ice cream in Richard's memory.
