Roger Stewart McVay, 88, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. He was born on October 8, 1937. Raised in Chickasaw, AL, he lived most of his adult life in Satsuma, AL. Roger was proud to be a Golden Eagle, having received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. While there, he met the love of his life, Louise Johnson, of Tylertown, MS. Although he started his work career as an English teacher, Roger eventually retired from the State of Alabama Employment System as Regional Manager, having completed 40 years of service. He was a member of Chickasaw United Methodist Church. He loved traveling, reading, managing the family's Tylertown tree farm, and spending time with family.
Roger was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Louise Johnson McVay, and his parents, Robert Emmette McVay and Dessie Lee McVay. He is survived by his children, Michael McVay (Lee Ann) and Steven McVay (Kelley); his grandchildren, Emily Rodgers (Blakley), Connor McVay (Jennifer), and Lee Michael McVay; and his great-grandchildren, Tinsley Rodgers, Brooks Rodgers, Mac McVay and Myer McVay.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 12 noon at Mobile Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11am until service Tuesday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
