Ruby Dempsey Lakeman, a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on April 12, 2025, peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Born on August 8, 1940, Ruby lived a life marked by compassion, a true devotion to God, a love for cats, and a passion for travel.
Ruby had a heart full of love and light, always encouraging those around her with gentle strength and kind words. Her greatest joy in life was her family, which she adored and supported wholeheartedly. She created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. She instilled the knowledge of Christ in her children that carries forward today.
She was known for her delightful nicknames, especially for her grandchildren, with each one bringing endless laughter and fond memories. Her grandkids will always remember the love, support, and humor she brought to their lives.
Ruby had a love of traveling, and her favorite trips were often shared with her travel buddy and daughter, Paula. Together, along with other family, they visited some of her favorite destinations; Gatlinburg, the magic of Disney World, the beautiful islands of Hawaii, and a cruise ship going anywhere. These trips were a source of great joy and laughter; moments Ruby will always be remembered for and memories that will be cherished forever.
Ruby also enjoyed quiet moments at home, particularly when she was playing a good game of Rummy with family and a fun filled game of cards with Mason. She was infamous for her Rook card parties back in the day.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Paul Lakeman Sr, and her dear son, Donald Eugene Lakeman. Ruby leaves behind her devoted children: Bill Lakeman, Robert (Sandra) Lakeman, Kenneth (Karen) Lakeman, Paula Lakeman, BlackJack and Pumpkin.
She was a proud and loving grandmother to Shanna (Chris) Williams, Kimberly (Justin) Hardee, Kenneth Matthew Lakeman, Tyler (Jesse Shoultz) Lakeman, Donald Paul (Cassie) Lakeman and Rebecca Lakeman. Ruby also leaves behind several great-grandchildren who brought her tremendous happiness and joy. All will carry forward her memory with love.
Ruby's legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to Jesus and her family will be cherished forever. She will be deeply and greatly missed by all who were blessed enough to know and love her.
