Samuel Victor "Vic" Savio

May 13, 1957 - September 12, 2024

Samuel Victor Savio, affectionately known as Vic, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama, at the age of 67. He left this earth during the landfall of Hurricane Francine - a metaphor he would have loved to dissect and interpret.

Vic was born on May 13, 1957, in Mobile and spent the majority of his life in the city he loved. His deep connection to his Southern roots and passion for history, especially local history, was something he enjoyed sharing with everyone he met. Whether pointing out an old landmark or reminiscing about the Mobile of his youth, Vic's love for the past was evident in every story he told. A never-quite-finished project, Vic was constantly working throughout his life to build his dream house and adored filling the grounds around his home with an expansive collection of plants and flowers. It was a testament to his love of antiques and bigger-than-life aspirations.

As a child, Vic and his family moved for several years to Texas, but they soon found their way back to Alabama. During his adult life, he also spent a brief time living and working in Long Beach, Mississippi. He married his first wife, Paula Howell (now Paula Wolf), in Mobile in 1982, and together they had two children. Vic was later married to Sarita Love (now Sarita Savio) for 16 years.

Vic proudly earned his high school diploma in three years and graduated from the University of South Alabama in three years as well. He studied accounting and spent his more than 40-year career at SSA Marine (originally Ryan-Walsh, Inc.), working in that field. He greatly enjoyed his career and only retired due to his declining health. His work ethic and dedication were known to those close to him.

Vic is survived by his daughter Christin (Nathan Pearman) Savio, son Stefan (Aaron Braverman) Savio, granddaughter Beatrix Savio, and sisters Toni Angelina (Jack) Carney, and Heidi Lightner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Savio and Doris Scott Savio.

A celebration of Vic's life will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 17, with public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, September 18, at 10 a.m. at Bonner Memorial Cemetery near Toxey, Alabama
