Shirlee Martinez

August 29, 1929 — September 15, 2023

Shirlee Martinez passed away on September 15, 2023 at the age of 94. She was an independent soul who lived alone on her own terms until the age of 93 when her declining health made it necessary to move into a nursing facility.

She was raised during the Great Depression so she had a lifelong habit of not throwing anything away that could be used again "someday". She remembered the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked. She had a lifetime of firsthand memories that most of us have only read in history books.

She served in the United States Air Force as a nurse and retired as a Lt Colonel, then started a business she and Dot operated from their home from several years.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her life partner Dorothy Scott in 2012. They had been together 52 years. Through their relationship, Shirlee gained a family and she is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews. All of us have good memories of how she and Dot opened their home to all of us at one time or another.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2023 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the graveside service time at 12:00 pm in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
