Born on November 23, 1959, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 12, 2025, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Halliburton, and his father, Gary Sowder. Ted's legacy lives on through his wife, Kimberly D. Sowder, of Grand Bay, Alabama; his two children, Ryan Sowder of St. Pete, Florida, and Rachael Sowder of Grand Bay, Alabama; his grandchildren, Brecken, Tucker, Kannon, Isaac, Kade, and Shine; his two brothers, Danny Sowder (Linda) of Lakeland, Florida, and Scott Sowder of St. Pete, Florida; his sister-in-law, Yevette Newlin (Neil Newlin) of Grand Bay; Monique Deakle Grand Bay, Al. his mother-in-law, Rebecca Deakle, of Grand Bay; and four nieces and three nephews. As a passionate advocate for veganism, Ted inspired countless individuals to adopt a lifestyle of kindness and respect for all living beings. With a career spanning 46 years, Ted's impact as a renowned ballroom dance instructor, owner, and colleague has been profound, touching hearts and transforming lives. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, reminding us that one life can be a powerful catalyst for positive change. Ted Lee Sowder's impact on the world of dance and beyond will forever be remembered, celebrated, and cherished.
He had a profound love and knowledge of music, and movies. He enjoyed the Cherokee mountains and was always studying and searching for his quest of knowledge.
